Welcome to my shop! Treasure Grotto opened in April of 2012 with a handful of vintage items and a dream of something special. Antiques can be quite fascinating, especially the flowing lines and nature-inspired patterns of the Art Nouveau period. Each piece has a story to tell, having been treasured and passed from one hand to the next for over a hundred years. Using the beautiful floral patterns of the late 1800's and early 1900's these antique treasures are hand crafted into rings, pendants and bracelets.

Sterling silver spoons which were once given as gifts, collected as souvenirs and passed down through generations have survived the ravages of time but are often left to sit in drawers or boxes, unseen and unappreciated in today's fast paced world. Now they are transformed into wearable art for today's woman.

The process is delicate because the spoons are often 100 years old, or older, and who knows what they have been through during that time. Using experience and skills learned in the fine jewelry business, each one is cut, shaped, smoothed, and fired to create the jewelry, then each one is finished by hand to bring the glow of the antique silver back to life. Only genuine antique spoons are used for the jewelry because the quality of the detail and density of the silver is far superior to modern cast silver reproductions. The originals were stamped under high pressure from solid sterling silver bars, hand finished, and made to last a lifetime. Copies just don't measure up in quality since they are lighter, smaller, more porous and subject to cracks and flaws.

By providing details about the original spoon maker and the approximate date the flatware was produced I am able to give my customer a bit of history to go with their jewelry. Often these old pieces are engraved and/or dated since it was common practice to give spoons as gifts for special occasions, and souvenir spoons were very popular collector items. Some American silver manufacturers produced spoons for each state and nearly every major city in the US, and many manufacturers produced elaborate floral collections and sold flower of the month series spoons.

Today these treasures find new life as jewelry from Treasure Grotto in an eco-friendly process that recycles the old silver while preserving the beauty of the original creations.
